North Perth

A 1930s North Perth Home is transformed into a Seamless Blend of Historic Charm and Modern Functionality for a Growing Family.

In the heart of North Perth, we have elegantly reimagined a 1930s character home, creating a harmonious blend of historical charm and modern functionality for a young couple planning a family. The renovation began with the removal of internal walls and a rear lean-to structure, allowing the hallway to flow seamlessly into a newly designed open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. This space extends into a north-facing covered alfresco area, promoting a fluid indoor-outdoor connection.

The existing kitchen was transformed into a scullery and powder room, while the new kitchen was relocated to the main living space, enhancing interaction and utility. A spacious new master bedroom with integrated robes and a private ensuite offers a tranquil retreat overlooking the rear garden. The original bathroom was restored, preserving the characterful terrazzo floors, and antique pendants were sourced to complement the home’s historic charm.

Stippled plaster finishes and decorative elements were meticulously replicated and restored, while modern finishes like polished concrete flooring at the rear provide a striking contrast. Cost efficiencies were achieved by extending the existing tiled roof form into the new areas. A gable feature with cedar sliding doors in the master bedroom overlooks the garden, and face brickwork in the BBQ area adds warmth and character. The design emphasizes light, high ceilings, and a seamless connection to the garden, creating a contemporary extension with a nod to the home’s original Art Deco character.
